Seiko 150m Quartz Diver Ghost Bezel

This caliber 7548 150m Quartz Water Resist diver watch is dated to 1979, which puts it a bit earlier in the production run. The case is well worn and the bezel and crown are functionally smooth. The Dial is pristine and dark blue/purple in hue which was standard for the “Pepsi” models. This example however has a completely bleached or “Ghost” bezel. Love it or leave it, there is no way to achieve this effect without time. There are some bangs and tarnishing on the insert at the 2 and 3 o’clock, however the white bezel is quite striking in person. The hands are tarnished and the lume was quite badly rotted when first receive, so the hour and minuet hands have been re-lumed and color matched. The movement and calendar function as then should and show no signs of corrosion or water ingress. The crystal is thick with an inner dome and flat on top. This was a classic Seiko profile during the 70s and early 80s and produces a subtle distortion thats unmistakable.

Quartz watches make excellent daily wearers as do watches with day and date calendars, however it is a tool watch. It is also quite large, yet Seiko typically employs a short lug to lug distance so it will still wear well on a smaller wrist. This is an excellent, maybe the best watch for someone interested in getting into vintage divers.
