Citizen Leopard 28J Hi-Beat

This particular case and dial variant of the Hi-Beat 7720 Leopard is quite compact at just under 35mm. It may well be the smallest cased leopard this restorer has come across. It’s form factor could be called a cushion case however it may be more of a river rock. It’s very sleek with a short lug to lug and recessed crown at 4 o’clock. The case is quite worn however the brushing is still legible. It is unpolished. The crystal is a boxed acrylic rather then the now exhausted original box mineral crystal. The shape is consistent with the original but acrylic is much more durable(ane more importantly, available). The dial has a black glossy finish, similar to traditional japanese lacquerware. The hands are in good condition and the stick indices have a tan yellow strip down the center. It’s a very handsome combination. The watch is fitted with an aftermarket mesh bracelet which suits it quite well. It all feels very continuous.

This Leopard has a day and date complication, quick-setting, hacking, and is automatic making it a very capable everyday watch. It is heavily jeweled so wear in the movement will be slower than its lower jeweled counterparts. The size is very much unisex if there ever was such among the leopard line. The case is compact and sits close to the wrist so sim wrists will find it comfortable as will bigger wristed wearers. It is suitable for both office and can be dressed up for more formal occasions. It’s a quite versatile piece.
