The Silverware line started in the late 1960s and touted superior waterproofing utilizing a a screwdown caseback and screw down crown. Silverwave watches covered a wide array of styles which were powered by both mechanical and quartz movements. This caliber 8229 followed in the fashion of the 70s turn away from classic styling to a more sports oriented daily wearer. This particular example has a full operable screw-down crown, the spring intact for a satisfying snap when its unscred. The case is some what worn as is expected for its age, however the sides are bright and the top surface brushing has been refinished. The oyster link metal bracelet is quite worn as well however it is very comfortable. The end links are hollow which was typical for the time and the do jingle a bit - more than most, however there is some charm to it. The crystal is new as well are the gaskets. The sunburst emerald dial is near perfect and quite vivid in person. The hands are white making time-telling easy at a glance.
This is an excellent every day watch. It is quartz and has a day/date function so no need for regular winding or setting. The hooded lug and short lug to lug make it wearable for both small and large wrists. The cal.8229, 8000 case is also quite compact and has less height compared to earlier quartz movement based watches. It is sits flat on the wrist. As it is a sports watch, it may be out of of place for more dressy occasions, however the dial is very nice and could pair well with a jacket, no tie for example.
