The 7002 diver was produced between 1988 and 1995. In retrospect it acted as a transition between the 6306 turtle or third-diver and what would be refreshed naming and design in the SKX. This was the end of an era and for this, the 7002 divers would be called transitional. Simplified, bare bones design, and dead simple. The bezel is the ball barring type, bi-directional, the movenmetn with 17 Jewels, and only a date complication. Despite the simplicity this transitional diver is a sort of parting gift to collectors, especially now, as so many 7002 were parted out, or modified because the weren’t considered collectibles until only recently . It’s now difficult to find an all original 7002 without mods or aftermarket parts. This example is one of them. It is an international model, without a Made in Japan, and model number 7000, indicating non-JDM. Despite this, the watch was purchased from a vender in Japan, so perhaps it was once bought by a Japanese resident, on vacation or left by a traveler. The watch is Heavily worn in the bezel insert, dial and hands, this is as honest as you can get in terms of an original 7002 diver. The movement is stamped Singapore and minimal print on the dial, only model number and a Daini marking. The lume on the pip, hands and dial have turned to a creamy yellow which is quite pleasing, in this reviewers opinion, nicer than the pale green of the slim diver or other 7002 out there. The movement is serviced and is surprisingly consistently.
This is an excellent everyday no fuss tool watch. Its is big and bulky and very casual. Dosen’t dress up so if you are a rugged individual and your dad or grand dad didn’t bother handing down his own watch, this one has that feel.
