Seiko King Quartz Birch Dial

This King Quartz model 4823-8130 is a very handsome watch. It has the “B” variant of the 48xx series movement which is an improved design with smaller battery and housing. However, this variant retains all of the robustness the 48xx series; full metal mainplate and bridge plates, full metal train of wheels, and jeweled seconds jumper, among other things. The case with hooded lugs has some scuffs and dings, however it’s been refinished so the horizontal brushing is legible and the bezel is bright. The dial and handset are near perfect. The dial is very unique has has an almost bark like texture. It is subtle but legible almost like the contemporary grand Seiko horizontal birch dials.

Quartz watches run consistently and reliably and don’t need to be reset if out of use. Further, these early Seiko quartz are built as well or better than their mechanical counterparts. They feel solid and luxurious. These are excellent every day watches and can be dressed up or down. As far as sizing, it does fall in line with most 70s vintage watches, however it is fairly thick compared to the quartz that would follow and a bit thicker than the slimmer mechanical watches like the Cal.56 series.
