  • In the late 1960s, Seikos Suwa factory had come up with the Cal.61 series chronographs (6319) under the “5 Sports” line. Daini’s response was the 7015, 7016 and 7017 chronographs. They were based on the Cal.70 platform with the addition of a timing layer, consisting of balance stop and hammer functions. Only the 7016 had a sub seconds register, with all timing for the 7015 and 7017 being done with the center seconds along. This give the 7015 and 7017 a very clean look, along with the chronograph seconds wheel and pushbuttons, the Cal.70 was transformed for user activated start/stop functions. This particular 7017 has a very clean dark blue-green dial with no real wear. The lume is without mold and has turned a light yellow-green. There is some tarnishing on the hands and the chronograph seconds hand is original - it is now a lighter orange pink color. The case has been polished and has quite few dings. You can still see the circular brushing despite the polish on top. The crystal is new old stock and the watch has fresh gaskets all around. It runs well and the start/stop and flyback pushers are very smooth to operate. The dial has a 60 seconds track and 100 distance counter. The idea being that the watch could be used to measure distance traversed if the speed was known and or velocity was consistent. Dividing by tens being the key here.

This is an understand sports watch that still looks technical on wrist. It’s more subdued compared to alternative Cal.61 chronographs and could be paired with dressier attire. As far as sizing, it does wear larger than your average 3-hander from the 70s, however it is smaller then any of the Cal.61. modle.
