Seiko 5 Actus Stop Seconds Charcoal

Seiko 5 was an introductory line, with the Actus moniker purportedly being a portmanteau of Active. While Seiko did release quite a few Sports models, which the line is often associated to, these 5Acuts watches are much dressier despite retaining certain Seiko 5 elements like the recessed 4 o’clock crown, day/date complication and automatic only winding. The additional of the SS branding indicates that this watch has Seconds Setting which we now commonly refer to as Hacking Seconds. This particular model has a handsome charcoal dial. The printing is in perfect condition and there is no chipping or deep dial damage, only some light scratches on the top surface varnish in some aeras. It is only visible in certain lighting conditions. The lume is original and has darkened at the hour markers tips. There is some staining on the hands lume, however the rehaul is new old stock and all of it looks excellent under the new old stock Seiko crystal. The case is well worn and fairly battered as is the bezel. The sides have a brushed angle part which has been re-brushed which sharpens the look, especially relative to the overall blobby form of the cushion case. Very cool watch, classic but also a bit sporty.

This watch is quite functional with a day and date complication however the black dial and tan strap give it a cool, moody character. Something you would wear for a night out rather than a wedding for example. The case is a bit bigger and bulkier than typically dress watches of the 70s however the short lug to lug and cushion case form make it suitable for a smaller wrist as well. If you have a skinny wrist but what a more visually present piece, this would be a good one.
