Seiko Chariot Blue Tank

There is no concert indication as to which line this Seiko model 2418-3040 belongs to, however it is in fact part of the chariot line. Because of its demure size, one could assume, especially considering contemporary sizing ,that this is in fact a woman’s watch, or for a teenager, or unisex. The chariot watches were in fact a men’s watch that played homage to even earlier wrist watches; relatively small(34mm or less) with minimal functions, simple branding and little adornment. The two hander further suggest that the watch is for formal occasions however with automatic winding and a date complication makes it a bit of an oddity. The rounded tank shaped case and original bracelet are in excellent condition, beautify brushed and the relative rarity of this example may make some watch restorers think twice about parting ways with it. The dial has a de-bossed pattern and the blue is a striking hue. The movement is no slouch either. It runs at 28800 beats per hour, or 8 per second, putting it firmly in the hi-beat echelon(that that there is any way of observing as there is no second hand). It hand winds as well.

This is an excellent everyday automatic with date complication. It is compact and minimal. The power reserve is short as it uses a smaller movement and mainspring. It has a sporty look as well however it being a two hander suggest formal dress as well. For someone looking for a small and reliable automatic that can be dressed up or down, this one is a good choice.
