Seiko Emblem Hi-Beat

While not explicitly demarked on the dial or caseback, the Cal.2409 was designed for Seiko’s Midsized Emblem line. The main quark of the Cal.2409 is that its powertrain is more on the scale of a womans watch, say the Cal.2706 while the calender side and mainplate was the scale of a full sized Cal.56xx. What’s more is that the Cal.2409 has a hi-beat 28800 bph rate and both a day and date complication. This particular example, on paper has a fairly traditional dial with roman numerals and a linen texture. The dial itself has gone a rosey pink over the years which adds to it’s vintage charm. The hands are matte black and very legible. The case has marks, dents and wear, however it doesn’t appear to have been polished as the brushed surfaces still have legible grain and the flat upper factory polished surface is bright. The crystal is new old stock and may well be one of the last of its kind available for purchase. The bracelet is not original but does fit the hooded lug aesthetic.

This midsized Emblem Hi-Beat is an excellent every-day watch. It has all the functionality of a “set it and forget” it movement. In terms of size, at a touch over 30mm it is small for a mens watch, however the 17mm lug width allows for a “men’s” size bracelet. Lastly, the hooded lugs and stepped case almost makes the 0020 looks like a a watch within a bracelet.
