  • The 5040 style Lord Matic is one of the most endearing Seikos produced in the 1970s. The soft, rounded ‘Squircle” case shape and crystal is often referred to as a TV dial - it’s a distinctly 70s design and is rarely given a contemporary homage it deserves. That being, there’s no mistaking this 5040 Lord Matic for anything other than vintage. The box shape acrylic crystal gives it a bit more distortion and bubble, only reinforcing its nostalgic look. Seiko opted to for a front loading crystal and movement design as they would have had to circle-the-square so to speak. This makes for a much more compact watch, which wears quite small, perhaps a bit smaller than its circular front loading counterparts. This is an excellent watch for everyday wear as its small and unassuming. It also has the added functionality of a calendar day and date. Maybe a bit funky for a black tie event however in a casual workplace setting tts a great conversation piece.
