The 5106 Seikomatic-P was a late holdout within the Seikomatic branding schema, to which this particular movement had a very short production run, from roughly 67’ to 69.’ Despite having a short production run the movement has a number of surprising features across all functional aspects of the watch. First is the spring loaded Push-Button crown by which the inner hexagonal surface is depressed to advance the date. Second is the spring-loaded instant calendar changeover at midnight, rather then the more common gradual changeover. You will never see a partially advanced day or date on this watch. Additionally, and perhaps more subtle, is the integrated automatic winding system, jeweled center wheel, and jeweled barrel arbor holes, all which contribute to the longevity of the watch and its parts. This particular example has a classic white dial look however with a few deviations from the norm. The hour markers are long with black painted ends, as is the thin minuet hand. A friend of mine calls this model the piano watch because its markers, especially at the 12 o'clock looks like piano keys! The case is quite worn but the dial, hands, crystal and crown are very clean. This model also has a peculiar silver chaptering in place of the more typical polished rehaut.
This is a very versatile piece that is an excellent daily wearer. It has all the functionality of an everyday watch; automatic and hand winding and a day and date complication. It’s minimal enough for the office but has enough character to go with a variety of dress. It is also formal enough for special occasions or a fancy dinner. As far as sizing, the case diameter is a touch larger than the mean, as is the crystal and dial. This would be an excellent choice for someone who likes vintage sizing but also has a bigger wrist.
